Classroom Research

I conduct classroom research projects aimed at improving scientific writing and inquiry skills in introductory biology courses. Currently, I am collaborating with Drs. Rachel Pigg, Mikus Abolins-Abols, and Jeff Masters (all at the University of Louisville) on this work. Previously, I collaborated with Dr. Katie Kearns and Dr. Michelle Marasco on projects at Indiana University. Participation in an IU Graduate Student Learning Community as a PhD student was essential for getting involved education research.

Courses Taught

Currently I teach the Introduction to Biology for Non-majors course at the University of Louisville. Previously, I designed and served as the instructor of record for "The Feminist Scientist: What’s the problem with women in science?" which was offered through the Indiana University Collins Living-Learning Center in 2016. In 2015 and 2016 I co-instructed "Roots, Fruits & Resiliency," an IU intensive summer course in Jamaica that united Jamaican ecology and culture. This course was taught in partnership with Dr. John Galuska. I also served as a head associate instructor for the Introductory Biology Laboratory course at IU.

Formal Pedagogy Education

I obtained a doctoral minor and graduate certificate in college pedagogy from Indiana University, and took 13 credit hours of graduate-level courses in college pedagogy (minor GPA: 4.0).
